Neighbouring Seed

The Missions Team has provided the funding for this neighbourhood initiative.   The hope is that you will be encouraged and feel supported to nurture the shalom of your neighbourhood(the flourishing and holistic well-being of your neighbours)... so that you JOIN IN with what God is already doing  where you live.  "The Word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighbourhood."  John 1:14  MSG  He places us in neighbourhoods - the place we inhabit - to participate in HIS work of  reconciliation, restoration  and renewal of all things.

We know the power of small, everyday, ordinary efforts (think mustard seed or yeast).  We want to affirm these efforts to build connection in your neighbourhood, so consider a grant to plant some seeds.

A letter from Sam to Granville Chapel

July 21, 2023

Dear Granville Chapel,

Greetings to you in the name of Jesus! As I write this letter, I am full of feelings of excitement, anticipation, and joy as I await and prepare for September. Granville Chapel is daily in my thoughts and prayers. I am truly humbled that God is leading me and my family to Granville and intertwining our paths together. As I expressed to you in the candidating message in June, from the beginning of this process, from the first time I stepped into the congregation last spring, and all throughout it til now, I have sensed God's presence and hand of guidance. I marvel at how the Lord leads and guides and takes care of us as we seek to put our trust in him.

My family and I are spending time together over the summer, and are out of town for a few of the remaining weekends. Today we are on our way out to Mission with our previous church community. We are also taking the opportunity to transition out of our present church context, preparing our children for the changes ahead, as well as catching up with friends and sharing the exciting news of our coming transition to Granville Chapel. I will stay in close communication with the Board and the current team to ensure as smooth a start as possible come September.

I know August marks a year from Andy's passing. Know that I'm praying for God's continued presence and comfort for the community and especially for Andy's family during this time. We grieve as those who have hope in Christ. May the Prince of Peace surround the family and the whole church with his love. A prayer that I have found meaningful in such circumstances of embracing both joy and sorrow is from the book Every Moment Holy. In it there is a line that reads: “In one hand I grasp the burden of my grief, while with the other I reach for the hope of grief ’s redemption.” I pray for encouragement for Granville at this time.

While Sept. 5 is more than a month away, I know that the time will pass by quickly and will be upon us in the blink of an eye! I'm looking forward to it with great anticipation! Please continue to pray for our family as we make these significant changes in the weeks ahead.

Looking forward to working together.

Yours in Christ,

Samuel

Dr. Sam Voo will be Granville Chapel's new Lead Pastor beginning September 5, 2023!

We thank the Lord for His amazing faithfulness and provision for Granville Chapel.  It has been quite a journey to discern and understand the Lord's leading during the Lead Pastor search, and your prayers and encouragement throughout this process have been so encouraging and appreciated by the Board and Search team.

The feedback provided by the community (Board, staff, ministry leaders, and congregation) was clear, with an overwhelming endorsement and support of Sam.  On July 2nd, the Board met and unanimously agreed to extend the call to Sam Voo to be Granville’s Lead Pastor.  Over the past 10 days details were finalized and yesterday Sam confirmed his acceptance of the call!

Sam will begin serving as our Lead Pastor on September 5th.  Don Crawford will continue as Transitional Lead Pastor until Sam begins, at which time Don will continue with us for a short while providing transitional support for Sam and the staff team.

We look forward to welcoming Sam and his family into our family and we’ll provide another update towards the end of August, including a date for Sam’s installment service.  We will provide other ministry details as we prepare for the fall.

If you have any questions, please send an email to board@granvillechapel.com

It is with grateful and expectant hearts that we enter this new and exciting season!

Ministry Update

We continue to wait for IRCC* to process Shahram's family's entry into Canada. The family is now awaiting a new medical screening as the first medical screening has lapsed since the visa-granting process did not go through within the validation period.  As well, their passports will be expiring soon. A security check is required for passport processing. A repeat medical screening is requested before they get their visa. Please continue to hold this family up in prayer for patience, health, safety and peace as they continue to wait on IRCC. We still have much to be thankful for as Shahram has secured full-time work by an employer that recognizes his skills and experiences.

Refugee Ministry Update

The Refugee ministry team has Exciting news to share. For 3 years we've been preparing for the arrival of a family from Afghanistan who is waiting in India. Their second oldest son Shahram arrived on August 19th. The team of 12 members has found a place for him to live and all the funds have been raised. Shahram is settling in well and open to meeting new people. You can meet him most Sundays at Granville Chapel.

The remaining 6 family members, two parents and 4 kids, will hopefully arrive later this fall. Canadian immigration has a policy to reunite families within one year in a situation like this where one member gets their visa earlier. Please continue to pray for their file to move quickly through the Canadian immigration process. This large family is sharing a very small apartment in India and faces the stress of being too close to the Taliban who continue to threaten their lives while they wait.

How to Give?
Granville chapel had previously raised $49,230 for their support. An additional $40,000 needs to be raised and $30,000 of that has already come in!

Those wishing to give should send cheques written as follows:

Cheques to "Granville Chapel"
Memo line: Refugee's Fund

Or donate online via CanadaHelps link on the right, please make sure to select “Refugee Fund” instead of “General”.

Thank you for your faithful support to those in need.
